Poker Hall of Fame
Le Poker Hall of Fame est situé à l'origine au coeur du casino Binion's Horseshoe à Las Vegas mais depuis le rachat de la marque WSOP c'est maintenant le casino Harrah's qui a cet honneur.
Créé en 1979 par Benny Binion, fondateur des World Series of Poker, le Poker Hall of Fame honore les grands joueurs de poker.
Chaque année aux débuts des World Series of Poker, une liste de joueurs est soumise aux votes d'un comité composé de membres du Hall of Fame et d'organisateurs des WSOP. Seul un ou deux joueurs sont alors désignés pour intégrer le Hall et recevoir ce titre honorifique.
Seul 35 joueurs sont inscrits dans le Poker Hall of Fame et il est rare d'en voir plus d'un par année. Entre 1997 et 2001 personne aucun nouveau joueurs ne fut inscrit au Poker Hall of Fame.
Beaucoup de noms sont inconnus du grand public car il s'agit de joueurs qui ont marqué l'histoire du poker bien avant que celui-ci ne connaisse le succès qu'on lui connait aujourd'hui.
Les conditions d'entrée au Poker Hall of Fame
- Avoir joué en High Stakes
- Avoir joué des tournois majeurs
- Avoir joué de manière constante, en ayant gagné le respect de ses pairs
- Avoir survécu à l'épreuve du temps
- Pour les non-joueurs, avoir contribué à la croissance et au succès de ce jeu par des faits durables qui ont marqué l'histoire du poker à tout jamais
Anecdote du Poker Hall of Fame
Jack Straus et Tom Abdo
Les deux joueurs sont décédés d'une crise cardiaque pendant qu'ils jouaient une partie de High Stakes Poker
Edmund Hoyle
Il n'a jamais joué une partie de poker de sa vie, mais il est le premier joueur de cartes à avoir proposer des règles standards.
Bill Hickrock
Ce joueur était sans doute le plus connu avant la vague actuelle du poker, non pour son niveau de jeu mais par qu'il est mort en jouant avec A8 lui donnant une double paire sur le flop. Il a alors été abattu par 3 balles dans le dos. A8 est donc resté avec ce nom peu enviable de "Deadman's Hand"
